On a beautiful evening at Llangefni, a high tempo match was observed. Indeed, it was the homesters who began most brightly and the visitors had to defend robustly during the first quarter of an hour. In fact, they fell behind 6 – 0 during this period due to two successful penalty kicks. It was after the second success that the Nant backs sprang to life and a free flowing passing movement saw Left winger, Jack Moriarty, touching down in the corner. Centre, Steffan Horan’r attempted conversion attempt appeared to be sailing wide when it turned inwards between the posts at the last split second to secure the extras. The score remained at 6 –7 at the break.
After a tongue lashing by the Coaches at the interval, it took less than a minute for Nant to race ahead when Scrum Half, Sion Pringle, spotted a gap in the defence and sprinted thirty metres or so to touch down by the uprights. Steffan Horan converted this try. A few minutes later, Steff Horan, copied Sion’s break and as soon as he broke the defensive line outpaced everyone to touch down in the right corner. Unfortunately, he failed to convert his own try!
Back came the Islanders and scored a deserved try when their pack rumbled over the whitewash and the conversion attempt was successful. Thus, the score became 13 – 19 after about 10 minutes of the second half. Nant were not happy with this and soon after, Nant’s full Back and ‘Man of the Match’, Cai Jones, successfully claimed a high defensive kick and avoided several attempted tackles. On seeing the white line in the distance, he accelerated further and ensured that nobody would catch him as he scored.
Steff. Horan made the try a seven pointer.
Nant played out the rest of the match content with the scoreline. Several substitutions were made at this stage with Nant introducing a number of teenagers for them to gain experience at a higher standard of rugby. No further scores ensued and thanks to both sides and the Match Referee as well for providing a highly entertaining match for the supporters to really enjoy.
